FREE FIX How to Diagnose and Adjust an A/C Compressor
So I decided to turn the AC on again. the battery light came back on and the screeching got infinitely louder. So I parked the car and revved the engine stopped, then turned the AC on. Both times the screeching was louder. So I popped the hood w/ the AC on and noticed the sound came from the vicinity of the timing belt. Does anyone have any ideas.
Car squeaks when turning on ac.
Under normal circumstances, no steering wheel makes noise when turning. It will run smoothly when you turn a corner. However, if there is any problem with the engine or other parts, the car will make different types of noises. Remember that taking a turn involves the operation of many internal components.
If the belt only squeals when you start the car with the AC on, it is probably the belt or the tensioner. If the belt squeals when you turn the AC on after the car it running, it possibly could be something with the AC compressor, but I’d still start with the belt or the tensioner. There are two ways to attack it:
The AC belt is probably the most simple component of a vehicle’s AC system, but still a very important one. The belt connects the AC compressor clutch to the engine crankshaft, which allows the compressor to be turned via the engine’s power when activated. As with most automotive belts, the AC belt will either be a V-belt or a serpentine.
Start the car while it is cold and turn the AC off and on. If the sound of the screech changes, then the fault is likely in the belt that drives the air conditioner. Operate the headlight switch. If that causes a change in the squealing sound, then the culprit is the belt that drives the alternator.. Turning loud bang noise. Hey there. There.
Hello, I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna with approx 64K miles. Recently, I am hearing a squealing noise when the AC clutch engages (AC is working fine and blows very cold air). When AC is off for when the clutch is not engaged – no noise at all… I have been getting alot of different answers as to what it could be and it is very confusing… to me – it sounds like a clutch issue and I have seen.
Car Engine Belt Sound The sound of a squeaking belt in a car’s engine can be caused by weather conditions, leaking fluids, maintenance issues or wear and tear. The magnitude of sound can range from a soft squeak to a loud and noisy squeal and it may occur while starting a cold engine or during normal vehicle operation.
A high-pitched squeal when you start your car is more than just an ear-piercing annoyance. It is a sign that there is something wrong that needs to be fixed right away. Belts. If your car squeals at start-up, the culprit is most likely the belt system. Most newer cars use a single, serpentine belt; older models may have as many as three belts.
DIAGNOSE – I HEAR A LOUD SQUEAL WHEN A/C IS TURNED ON By Carl O’Reilly. SYMPTOM SUMMARY A loud squeal is produced when the A/C is turned on.. USUAL CAUSE This symptom is usually caused by a loose or worn air conditioning compressor belt. When the A/C is activated the compressor is engaged. This places a load on the engine and the drive belt that rotates the compressor.
My car squeals when I have the air conditioner on. (2002 Toyota Echo) Everytime I turn the air on and I am coming to a stop, my car makes a loud squeal. When I accelerate it gets worse, and then goes away. Sometimes I can rev my engine to get it to stop too. The only thing that doesn’t really make sense is that the noise sometimes happenes when.
The belt which turns the A/C is worn. The engine more than likely has a serpentine belt (one belt turns everything). What’s happening is when you turn on the A/C, the belt is slipping trying to turn the compressor, it is heating up as it slips, (serpentine belts can take a lot of heat) and when it gets hot enough, it will eventually grab the compressor pulley and start turning it.
My car is a 1996 Toyota Avalon with the 3.0L 1MZ-FE engine, and I am hearing a high pitch squealing noise whenever the blower motor/AC is turned on, even on the low setting. The squealing noise raises and lowers when I press the gas pedal which makes me think it is the AC pulley but I am looking for another suggestion.
Bad Air Conditioning Noises. Most people are interested in the noises their system shouldn’t be making. They’re rightfully concerned the issue could be one of the top three worst AC problems an older car can have. Squealing sounds are perhaps the most common complaint from drivers.
Turning on and off the a/c should not affect the alternator. I also put a second used power steering pump on the car and it still squealed. I do not know what else to do. I’m a fairly good mechanic and i’m stumped on this one. Why does turning on and off the a/c make it squeal, expecially when I disconnect the alternator belt and it won’t do it.
If your car squeaks when it turns or makes a squealing noise when you turn the steering wheel, there are a variety of causes. The most likely causes for a squeaking car are; suspension losing lubrication, low power-steering fluid and the the steering wheel housing rubbing against the interior trim.
Hearing squeaking noises while turning can be bothersome, but it’s scarier to drive a car when these sounds serve as signs of malfunctions or breakdowns. Driving with a contaminated oil or unlubricated moving components are just some of the reasons why a car squeaks when turning.
Try starting the car with your AC on. If you hear the squeaking, immediately turn off the AC. If the squeaking immediately stops, it is the AC compressor belt. The belt either needs tightening or the compressor needs oil. Maybe both. If the squeaking continues, then most likly the next belt to check is the power steering belt.
Non-Alternator Squeaks. Any sound that is a “squeak” is usually related to a belt somewhere in the engine. It is a good idea to check all the other belts that you have in your car if you hear this type of noise when you start the engine. While modern cars drive most accessories and the alternator from a single serpentine belt, older cars often.
If your car squeaks or squeals while turning the steering wheel, it’s probably the steering system. If your car squeaks or squeals every time you turn a corner and let everyone know you’re coming, then it’s probably a good guess that it’s something to do with the steering. The culprit could be one of several possibilities.
